Day 6
Had work today too, we unloaded from storage containers all of the unsold merchandise of 2010, which was quite a lot but still a small fraction of what’s to come. It was good to see how well people worked together though. I walk a careful line having a slight authority but also being an outsider of sorts. It was the first day I drove to work alone and was free to get some shopping done...

Day 5
In three days an empty storefront has filled, been partially decorated, hired on six employees and is ready for initial inventory. It’s pretty amazing and it thrills the entrepreneur in me. I keep mentioning cats, there are 8 around here and the five kittens are in desperate need of human attention or they aren’t going to be approachable as adults. Went out for lunch today and...

Day 4
Man, it’s tough to push a second day of effort onto an already tired body. If I hadn’t had so much sleep last night I might have to worry about getting sick. The good news is that there was no Semi to unload today but there was plenty of drilling and screwing and assembling. The beautiful weather makes it hard to not find excuses to go outside. Mid 80’s with a light breeze....

Day 3
Holy crap! Work is hard work! Today I started work and the entire day was full of labor. It was excellent, as I’ve been wanting to get physically active again and the pushed me pretty hard. In fact, as soon as I got home I ate and immediately went to bed, vowing to shower in the morning. It was interesting to see where I’m going to be working as an empty shell and start to build it up...

Prairie Home
I wanted to post a few thoughts and can’t remember my New Years blog name. Maybe I’ll get another one set up. Day 1, after some amusing and ridiculous set backs in the airport my aunt graciously picks me up at the airport. We stop at a grocery store, Hyvee which is setup almost exactly like a Publix and is also employee owned. The Dr at the pharmacy in the store is notably cute and...

Coming soon to own on video cassette...
In a half dream, I feel like my whole life is a series of previews playing out on a television screen. Each activity, moment, challenge, and story a stereotype of production and expectation. I’m watching the previews with detachment, sitting alone on the couch, and then I imagine my partner coming into the scene, with a bowl of snacks, cuddling up on the couch, and the feature presentation...

Prompt 5: "Let Go"
December 5 – Let Go. What (or whom) did you let go of this year? Why? (Author: Alice Bradley) Fair warning, I’m thinking this is going to be a length entry. Recommended playlist: All American Rejects - It Ends Tonight Dashboard Confessional - Vindicated Relient K - Who I Am Hates Who I’ve Been (Acoustic) When I first read this prompt, I thought “Man, I’m going to...

Prompt 4: "Wonder"
December 4 – Wonder. How did you cultivate a sense of wonder in your life this year? (Author: Jeffrey Davis) Alright, this one almost broke my resolve to participate in Reverb10, I have to admit.  When I first read this prompt on Saturday I thought “Really? These prompts are starting to sound like a condescending sunday-school teacher asking “Rain. Why did God flood the whole...

Prompt 3: "Moment"
December 3 – Moment. Pick one moment during which you felt most alive this year. Describe it in vivid detail (texture, smells, voices, noises, colors). (Author: Ali Edwards) I read this prompt just after I woke up today, and it’s now a few hours after I should have gone to bed. Unfortunately, nothing has stood out.  I’ve done a fair amount of reflecting all day long.  I thought...

Prompt 2: "Writing"
Yesterday I didn’t include the prompt verbatim, I will for the remaining entries. December 2 Writing. What do you do each day that doesn’t contribute to your writing — and can you eliminate it? (Prompt Author: Leo Babauta) I read the prompt around 2:00 today but let my mind just work on my reply throughout the afternoon, while I checked e-mails and read Gawker, while I cooked...

Prompt 1: "One Word"
The very first prompt for this year’s Reverb project calls for me to summarize 2010 in a single word.  Well I think that’s fairly easy: Slow Why was 2010 slow, despite the magic of being named after Arthur C. Clarke’s Odyssey II? Well, mostly because it took me half the year to get a job, another month to get a place to live, and then by the end of the year I was out of the job...

The devil you know may be holding you back.
None of this is original from me, but the final point rings pretty strongly.  - Adam davidgillespie: This rings so true. I am a big fan of shaking things up whenever I feel comfortable; last time I did that I moved to almost the opposite side of the world on a one-way ticket I booked almost absent-mindedly. And it’s almost time to do it again. bijan: Last week I had a drink with an...

"Kiss me, you fool!" →
A very interesting article that touches on the scientific research behind kissing.  Did you know as humans we use kissing as a way to measure a mate’s immune system compatibility and that saliva contains testosterone which acts as an aphrodisiac to stimulate arousal.  Most interesting, kissing also releases hormones that reduce stress and increase feelings of attachment, but only in men, not...

Human Rights Day 2009
“No country is free of discrimination. We see it everywhere, in many forms: old and new, covert and blatant, public and private. It may appear as institutionalized racism, as ethnic strife, as episodes of intolerance and rejection, or as an official national version of history that denies the identity of others. Discrimination targets individuals and groups that are vulnerable to attack:...

I know, but..
My mother routinely forwards e-mails she finds amusing.  I’m pretty sure forwarding e-mails is a modern mothering requirement.  It’s something like a modern day spit wipe with a handkerchief, you just endure and know complaining is futile.  Well in one of her church related mailings, she sent a joke that had a subsection entitled “Today’s Thought”.  It said “I...

Friendship
I recently was sorting through old books and a page of quotes fell open: “The real test of friendship is: Can you literally do nothing with the other person”? Can you enjoy together those moments of life that are utterly simple? They are the moments that people look back on at the end of life and number as their most sacred experiences.” - Eugene Kennedy (?) and this one, which...

A religious thought
What if you didn’t find God, but he found you? Came looking for you as a lost sheep or as a prize to be won, or as a kindred spirit to rejoice and celebrate life with.  What if he came as your soul mate and then left behind the partner that he made for you.  What if, in that one moment that you found God, and he found you, he was enriched as much as you were and the result was the Love you...

Welcome
I’m Adam, a somewhat savvy college graduate in Orlando, Florida, USA. As I explore the features and options of my Tumblr I am considering integrating my Facebook, Twitter, Wordpress, Blogspot, Gchat, Picasa, Flickr, and personal website content into a central location. I believe that the months ahead will only see further content integration and personal branding, and while my voice might...
