My mother routinely forwards e-mails she finds amusing. I’m pretty sure forwarding e-mails is a modern mothering requirement. It’s something like a modern day spit wipe with a handkerchief, you just endure and know complaining is futile. Well in one of her church related mailings, she sent a joke that had a subsection entitled “Today’s Thought”. It said “I know there’s no way to do that - but if there WERE a way, what would it be?” and my immediate thought in reply was “..Considered wrong by the conservative religious right.” Perhaps no one else finds it as amusing as I did, but it was humorous that the dogma came with it’s own ironic prompt about imagining something beyond the status quo. I’m glad I’ve outgrown that mentality, in at least some areas of my life. Who knows, perhaps the person who included that was looking for one tiny opportunity to send out a ray of sunshine, I like to think that most people whose lives are manipulated by the church are well meaning and full of kindness. They are simply not given the leadership and community that they deserve or seek.
I know, but..
