Curiosity Cured the World
Prairie Home

I wanted to post a few thoughts and can’t remember my New Years blog name. Maybe I’ll get another one set up.

Day 1, after some amusing and ridiculous set backs in the airport my aunt graciously picks me up at the airport. We stop at a grocery store, Hyvee which is setup almost exactly like a Publix and is also employee owned. The Dr at the pharmacy in the store is notably cute and she makes polite conversation during the transaction, noting that my ID is from Florida. It’s the first sign of the day that I am clearly in the Midwest. The second sign was the in-store promotional message on the loudspeaker in JCPenny (I needed a few items I didn’t pack) “Schedule your 9/11 portrait session today to ensure your pictures of your family are ready to give as gifts to all your loved ones on the day of remembrance that is just around the corner.” 9/11 Portraits. Classy.

Day 2, my first full day was off to a slow start after an upset stomach prompted me to stay in bed. This meant missing The Price is Right but I’m told it wasn’t very noteworthy today. I did get outside to help my grandfather harvest his summer potatoes and later to fix a barbed wire fence. The temperature outside was in the upper 70s with full sun but breezy. It was ideal. I also mowed my uncle’s lawn in the evening in exchange for a 12 pack.
Also, I took the keys for my temporary car while up here. It’s nicer than my own pickup and I’m super lucky to get to drive it.

Grandma was reading from the junk mail “Harold, your life could be changed forever!”
To which Grandpa replied “I’m ninety and I can still dig potatoes, I don’t think I need to change very much now.”

Also amusing, President Obama was giving an address about the economy but my Grandma had it on mute and then later commented idly “That President sure talked a long time today, I wonder what he had to say.”
Reminded me of forum posting,
